Preventative Care Treatments

Teeth cleanings and oral exams are two of our most important preventative tools in our office. Regular dental check ups allow us to clean away any plaque or tartar on the teeth and perform a comprehensive exam to ensure optimal oral health. Regular cleanings also provide the opportunity to assess the quality of brushing at home and give feedback on areas for improvement.

All exams also include a head and neck cancer screening as well as any necessary x-rays that are needed to diagnose cavities or infections. The doctor will then discuss all findings and options for care with you.

Dental Home

The Dental Home is the “home base” for your child’s dental care throughout childhood. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends establishing a dental home by the age of 1 or 6 months after getting the first tooth. The dental home helps to identify any risk factors for cavities early to hopefully prevent the need for treatment later.

Getting established at a dental home has the added benefit of allowing you and your child to get comfortable with our office. A familiar experience will hopefully help alleviate some dental anxiety and help establish lifelong good oral habits. A dental home can also provide emergency care as many dental emergencies are time sensitive.

Dental sealants work to prevent cavities by filling in the nooks and crannies of the biting surfaces of the teeth. This way the bacteria and acid from the foods they eat cannot get stuck in the grooves as easily. For this non-invasive procedure, we clean the tooth, apply a thin layer of filling material into the grooves, and harden it with a ultraviolet light.

Mouth Guards

We offer custom fitted mouth guards that will help to protect the teeth while playing sports. Athletes are 60 times more likely to have a dental trauma so protecting those pearly whites is critical!

Fluoride treatments are a varnish a dental professional will apply to the teeth after a cleaning. The fluoride attracts minerals to the teeth to help maintain their strength and can help slow down or even stop the progression of early cavities in some cases.
